Q & A: Hiking the Appalachian Trail?

Posted by 15 November, 2011 (4) Comment

Question by Huge Boss: Climbing the Appalachian Trail?
I’d like to hike the entire trail in 2012 (June-October). My brother’s friend accomplished it this past summer, which after examination about his travels ensured my choice. I’m having distress finding decent guides/journals/tips on the web, though. Any of you have any links that could provide me with some in rank? Thanks!

A thru-hike of the AT will probably be one of the more physically and emotionally demanding things you ever do. It’s excellent to see that you’re starting to plot your trip now as there are a lot of considerations that have to go into such an undertaking.

Erik the Black’s Backpacking Blog is one of my favorites and provides a lot of really useful and practical resources for distance hikes. Here is a link to some fantastic posts he did specifically on the AT and some excellent resources.

The “Appalachian Trail Thru-Hikers’ Companion” is also a highly rated resource for persons preparing for the the AT.

While the demands of this trail are fantastic, but you WILL no doubt be greatly rewarded for your efforts.
